Fishing
Porth Reservoir
Porth is set in a steep sided valley surrounded by woodlands just outside Newquay. The lake is very mature with overhanging treelines and large beds of lily pads. It contains carp to 34lb and is home to some stunning fish such as ‘Arnie’ and ‘Her Indoors’ (both mirrors) which are regularly caught over 30lbs. Porth currently has approx. 6 fish over 30lbs and there is a great head of back up 20’s with the majority of fish over 25lbs. There are bream to 12lbs, Rudd to 2lb, roach 2lb plus pike to 24lb and perch to 5lb. Match weights up to 50lbs are common and it also produces great sport for pleasure anglers. The pike fishing is winter only from 1st October
to 29th February.

What's On...
Festivals
Local to Halula Beach House there are a great range of festivals taking place throughout the year. Anything from the Newquay Fish Festival where famous and local chefs show off their expertise in local cooking demonstrations, to polo on the beach or Surf 7’s Rugby Tournament. Surfing is now an official Olympic sport and England’s surfing capital is right on Halula’s doorstep! There are many surfing events and adrenaline sports championships to watch during your stay.
2-9 July is Newquay Carnival week, bringing with it a heap of fun for all ages: live music, demos and bouncy castles are just a few of the things on offer. August boasts one of the highlights to the coast and it goes by the name of Boardmasters – a renowned music and surfing festival comprising everything from live music to surf lessons and wellbeing to skating and BMXing.
October is Halloween month, and it’s a big deal in Newquay, which is famous for its ‘zombie crawl’ on the 29th, a spooky sleepover at Camel Creek and creepy crafts and scary trails at Newquay’s Trerice Manor House. In November, make sure to check out the amazing bonfire night with firework displays over Porth Beach.
